DESCRIPTION: EPW - Edward Prior, London, quadruple cased verge fusee for Turkish market, outermost cases are a 68mm leather covered wooden closed carry case and a 55mm silver mounted brass OF covered in tortoise shell piqué, inner two cases are silver OF bearing London hallmarks for 1851, the innermost with incuse "E (reversed) C" marking and incuse "J B W W" marking with the latter for casemaker Josiah Barnett and William Waters, white enamel dial with Turkish numerals, KWKS, verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock, s#67000. Gross weight of assembled quadruple cased watch 95.4 dwt (148.4 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some abrasions and short scratches around pillar positions, few fine scratches elsewhere; dial with some hls in upper-right portion between 12 and 3:30, light line of surface rub inside minute chapter between 9 and 3; fine hands, minute with ample finish loss and mild oxide, hour with lesser degree of finish loss but greater oxide; outer carry case shows medium wear, mild losses of exterior finish with most notable around hinge and at lower edge, button latch good though requiring a firm depress for release; third case shows light wear, silver mounted portions with few small nicks, no dents, two piqué elements lost from upper rear, tortoise shell substantially intact with bezel fracture at 3, bezel fracture at 7, areas of loss at rear perimeter adjacent button latch and hinge, and some impact spots of surface loss to center rear and to right center rear, button latch good, case closes with small bit of gap to its upper portion; second case shows little wear, some mild dings to rear, good engraving detail, button latch good though with some denting of button; inner case shows light wear, some dings to lower portion of edge, some mild circumferential indentation of edge between 12 and 3; bow pivots freely; domed glass crystal with some abrasion and short scratches near center.
